Our Super Herbs
Here at Aunty Amy’s, our herb champions are found locally in the foothills of the Yarra Valley. Each formula has been developed for the needs of our own family, and the herbs were grown in our own Herb Garden or wild crafted from local bush land near our home.
Meet our super herbs!
Plantain
Masquerading as a weed, Aunty Amy originally harvested this herb from her own backyard. Plantain is highly nutritious as a salad green, and is traditionally used to draw out toxins, infections and foreign substances from the skin. Its soothing, anti-inflammatory effect makes it an excellent remedy for insect bites, rashes, eczema and minor burns. It is used to support skin healing, improving recovery of cuts, scrapes and wounds. It also has antimicrobial and antibacterial activity, helping prevent infection. Nature's all-purpose skin repairing remedy, Plantain is the hero of our Itch & Ouch Balm and Bite Balm.
Dandelion
Probably the most recognised and loathed flower in the world, Dandelion has received a bad rap from gardeners, farmers and lawn lovers. Instead of trying to rid our fields of little yellow Dandelions, we embrace this super herb, as a nutrient rich salad green, diuretic and liver cleanser. Topically, the flowers are especially treasured for their analgesic (pain-relieving) properties, making them an excellent addition to our balms for sore muscles or other aches and pains. They’re also traditionally used in preparations to heal rough chapped skin, keeping skin soft and smooth, or to combat ageing of the skin. Our original ingredient, Dandelion is found in our Aches & Pains Balm, Baby Balm and Monthly Soothe Balm.

Yarrow
Traditionally known as “nosebleed” or “herba militaris” (the military herb), because of its effectiveness in stopping blood flow and staunching wounds. A common roadside herb, Yarrow has been used for thousands of years as a styptic; a plant that stops bleeding through stimulating clotting in cuts, abrasions and internal bruising. The plant is also used as an antiseptic to fight bacterial infection, and as an analgesic for its pain-relieving properties. Nature's original band aid, Yarrow is a key ingredient in our Itch & Ouch balm.
Calendula
A member of the Marigold family and often grown in vegie patches, the petals of the Calendula flower hold anti-inflammatory properties and are commonly used to improve skin hydration and firmness. Traditionally sought as a remedy for all kinds of inflammatory skin issues like nappy rash, dermatitis and more. Also known for its antioxidant activity, helping to increase blood flow and oxygen to wounds, and speeding the growth of new tissue. Nature's skin soother, Calendula is found in our Itch & Ouch Balm, Baby Balm and Deodorant Range.

Chamomile
Probably the most ancient medicinal herb known to mankind, Chamomile is used to promote relaxation, calm the mind and promote sleep. Topically, the flowers also have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that are commonly used to relieve skin irritations. It contains polyphenols, that work to eliminate free radicals which cause premature ageing. Chamomile is a key ingredient in our Sleep Tight Balm, Baby Balm and Calm & Clear Balm.
Nettle
Nettle, or Stinging Nettle has been a staple in herbal medicine since ancient times. Early Egyptians used Stinging Nettle to treat arthritis and lower back pain, while Roman troops used its skin warming properties to help themselves stay warm. The Arthritis Foundation suggests that Nettle may also reduce the inflammation and pain associated with osteoarthritis, with the added bonus of warming and increasing blood flow to aching muscles and joints. The benefits of Nettle can be found in our Aches & Pains Balm.
